Singing at the Rugby League Autumn Internationals!

Students take part in an exciting and unique musical opportunity

In partnership with the Rugby League, CHANT Productions visited the schools across United Learning to engage with the group of students in a workshop programme specifically designed to create a choir aiming for a professional standard.

The schools involved were: Wilberforce Primary, Walthamstow Academy, Salford City Academy, Accrington Academy and Central Academy. On Saturday 7th November, schools from London joined together with adult choirs to form a 300-strong CHANT choir and sing live at the Olympic Stadium. On Saturday 14th November, Northern schools joined together and sang live on the rugby pitch at the DW Stadium. The performances were for the massive audiences of over 25,000 fans at the Rugby League Autumn Internationals: England v New Zealand.

The performances included a pop medley, the hymn ‘Jerusalem’, the New Zealand national anthem, and were featured live on BBC Sport.

Jo Landon, Music Teacher, said:

“It was a super experience and an amazing opportunity provided by United learning and CHANT productions. We all had a fab day!”
