Students and staff at Stockport Academy are today celebrating their best ever GCSE results for the second year in a row.
61% of students achieved five or more A* to C grades including a 4 or above in both English and maths, with grades for the latter two subjects changing to a numeric scale for the first time with a new highest grade of 9.
There were notable individual successes, including Head Girl Megan Deans who achieved a Grade 9 in both maths and English Literature as well as a Grade 8 in English Language, four A*s and an A.
Ines Duarte, who only joined the academy this year from Portugal, has achieved a Grade 8 in maths, Grade 7 in English Language as well as three A*s and two As.
Megan, who will now go on to Cheadle Hulme Sixth Form to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry said:
“I’ve been so nervous, I didn’t sleep at all last night. But now I’ve got my results I’m over the moon – I can’t even describe in words the feeling; it’s just absolutely amazing.”
