Students at John Smeaton Academy Celebrate GCSE Results

46% of students achieved five or more A* to C grades including 4 or above in both English and maths – an increase from last year.

There were also improvements in the number of students achieving at least a grade 4 – equivalent to the old ‘C’ grade – in English and maths respectively.

There were notable successes, including:

  • James McCrory, who achieved a grade 9 in both English Language and Literature, a grade 8 in maths, A*s in triple science and straight As or A*s across the rest of his results;
  • Yen Cortex, who achieved a grade 9 in both English Language and Literature, a grade 8 in maths, A*s in triple science and straight As or A*s otherwise;
  • Kacey Clifford, who achieved a grade 9 in English, a grade 7 in maths,  an A*and three As;
  • Katie Jones, who achieved grade 8s in English Language, English Literature and maths, A*s in triple science, an A* and an A.

Jason Kenneally, Head Teacher of John Smeaton Academy, said:

“I am very pleased for all our students celebrating their results today, which reflect the improvements underway across the academy and in the core subjects of English and maths in particular. I know how hard students and staff alike have worked this year so it is gratifying to see outcomes improve. Today’s results, as well as our Sixth Form students’ achievements last week, provide a strong platform from which to build on in the new academic year.”
