This year, United Learning’s Partnership Fund has commissioned celebrated composer Alexander L’Estrange to write ‘Wassail! Carols of Comfort and Joy’, to inspire collaboration, musical excellence and joy through choral singing.

This project has recently been shortlisted in the BEST CLASSICAL MUSIC EDUCATION INITIATIVE category at the Music teachers Awards 2018, sponsored by Classic fm. The winner will be chosen by a public vote on www.classicfm.com.

The Partnership Fund seeks to enhance the opportunities available to United Learning students and, as such, well over 1,000 students and staff from across the Group are busy learning and rehearsing Wassail! for two premiere performances in Southwark Cathedral and the Royal Northern College of Music in November 2017.

We are delighted that VCM, the UK’s leading choral foundation, are helping our students prepare for the performances by running a series of singing workshops.

We are also very pleased that acclaimed vocal ensemble Apollo 5 will be performing alongside students at the premiere performances.

As a legacy to the project, the piece itself will bring communities both in and beyond United Learning together to sing for years to come as it is published by Faber Music.
