Staff are praised for quality of advice and guidance to students
Stockport Academy has received the first stage of a prestigious award for the quality of its careers advice, guidance and support to students.
The official recognition comes care of Inspiring IAG, the Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance Quality Award, originally developed by the Greater Manchester Connexions service providers in 2009 and jointly owned by Greater Manchester’s 10 local authorities.
Now being delivered in other areas across the country, the award has been designed to enable organisations to not only deliver and be recognised for good quality careers education, information, advice and guidance, but to also assist them to meet legislation, prepare for inspection and provide a better service to young people.
Thanks to the efforts of its staff, Stockport Academy has now successfully completed Stage One of the award (equivalent to Bronze) and is working towards Stage Two and eventually the gold standard, Stage Three.
Commented Stockport Academy Principal Frank McCarron:
'This is a fantastic achievement for the school and a real credit to the hard work and dedication of all those involved here at the Academy. Strong careers advice and guidance is absolutely essential in helping our young people make the right choices and preparing them for the modern world once they eventually complete their education with us. This award demonstrates our commitment to that process.'
