Ashford School headmaster chosen for key school support role

The Head and staff at Ashford School have been selected for a top role supporting schools in challenging circumstances.

Mike Buchanan is one of 137 head teachers to be appointed to the role of National Leader of Education (NLE) in the latest recruitment round. NLEs along with staff in their school - designated a National Support School - use their success and professionalism to provide leadership support in other schools.

Mike Buchanan said:

'I am delighted that the exceptional work my colleagues do at Ashford School and within the United Learning has been recognised in this way. We are eager to play an increasing role in developing exceptional leadership whenever a partner school seeks our assistance. We happily do so because ultimately it enriches the opportunities for pupils at Ashford School and elsewhere.'

Charlie Taylor, Chief Executive of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said:

'It’s great that heads such as Mike Buchanan are willing to look beyond their own school gates to help more and more pupils achieve. School-to-school support is having a growing impact with benefits for both the schools being supported and those providing the support'

Successful heads will be invited to attend a formal induction and training for the role in driving school improvement.
