We are now coming to the end of our month-long IDeas Festival, which schools across the Group have embraced with their creativity. It has been incredibly interesting and entertaining to see how each school has risen to the challenge we set them earlier in the year; to celebrate how their local, regional and national identity enriches their curriculum and their schools – both inside and outside of the classroom.

United Learning Students Experience University Life

Students used music, art, food and drama to bring the spirit of Manchester to life, when William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) staged its own Cultural Diversity Day on Tuesday (11^th July.)

Barnsley Academy joined together with Sheffield Park and Springs Academies to stage visual spectacular ‘The Journey’ on 5^th and 6^th July.

United Learning has just announced the winners of its very own Oscars.  The United Learning Film Awards (ULFAs) challenged pupils in both the Group’s primary and secondary schools to make short films as part of the IDeas Festival – a national event for all of the Group’s schools to explore their local, regional and national identities.

Pupils at Abbey Hey Primary Academy have been turning back time this week as part of the school’s 80^th birthday celebrations.  The week of celebrations coincides with United Learning’s IDeas Festival – a national event in which all of the Group’s schools are exploring their local, regional and national identities.

Over 100 pupils from Hull Collegiate School celebrated ‘The Roots of Rhythm’ last week with two full days of music and arts activities – from a mass samba band to local artist workshops.

This week Year 6 students at Swindon Academy have been celebrating the cultures of their local community through a series of music and dance activities.

Recently the Social Mobility Commission published a survey showing that the younger generation feels increasingly “on the wrong side of a profound unfairness in British society”, leaving them less well-off than their parents, with worse job security and poorer housing prospects.

Last week, over 500 students aged 9 to 16 took part in two regional music and arts showcases as part of United Learning’s national 2017 cultural celebration – IDeas Festival.

“Lincoln Minster School held its Summer Concert last night in the Nave of Lincoln Cathedral, a wonderful setting for outstanding performances from our pupils, ranging in age from Year 3 to Year 13.

Last week at NOA’s Ark Nursery in Banbury, staff and pupils made local nursery rhyme ‘Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross’ the focus of their learning as part of their involvement in United Learning’s IDeas Festival.

Students from Lincoln Minster School have spent six months decorating a statue of a Knight, which features as part of the city of Lincoln’s Education Knights Trail. 

Over 380 students and staff from 14 schools across United Learning will be collaborating next week for the Group’s first Performing Arts Festival.

A Lincoln Minster pupil is celebrating after being announced as the winner of the United Learning Art Competition.  Year 12 pupil Artur Giniiatullin’s winning piece Mr Blow the Pirate was chosen out of 25 entries as the winner of United Learning’s annual competition.

A Year 8 student from Lambeth Academy, Sophie McGrath, has designed the chosen logo to represent the IDeas Festival, which is United Learning’s national cultural festival for 2017.
