Guildford High School plays host to Sheffield Springs Academy

Last week a group of Sheffield Springs Academy Year 11 students joined their peers at Guildford High School for a day of activities aimed at raising aspirations.

The two-day event saw the students learning together in a variety of subjects including Latin, Spanish and religious studies as well as English where they compared notes on literary texts such as ‘An Inspector Calls’.  They also put their knowledge of circle theorem to the test in maths and did physics and chemistry practical experiments.

As part of the trip, the Springs students also visited the University of Surrey, where they got a taste of student life.

The event also was also an opportunity from teachers from the two schools to work together to develop strategies for challenging and developing high-performing students.

Commenting on the visit, Sheffield Springs Academy’s Head of School Mark Shipman, said:

“Being part of United Learning enables us to share experiences and interact with other schools in the Group and our visit to Guildford was a perfect example of this.  It has not only broadened our students’ horizons but has helped them to forge new friendships.  It has also allowed our staff to develop new learning strategies with their Guildford colleagues.

“This is the second time we have done this and judging from the feedback, it was a great success, helping those who took part to develop their confidence building, as well as improving team ethos in Year 11.”
