This week, Lambeth Academy student Stella Oyetunde was announced as the winner of the Lambeth Borough Regional Final of the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge.
The competition, which was held at Lambeth Academy, brought together 20 Year 10 students from local schools along with their friends and family in order to practise and celebrate the art of public speaking. Contestants had two minutes to speak on a topic of their choice, with the winners qualifying for the national final and a chance to win £5,000.
Stella Oyetunde was crowned as the overall winner of the evening for her speech ‘Cake or Crumbs?’ about aspiration and making dreams a reality. It can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfXJqvFMck0.
She will go on to compete at the national Grand Final in July at London’s prestigious Piccadilly Theatre.
During the event, Lambeth Academy was also represented by two other students – Shakiel Smith and Leandro Oliveira – who both performed exceptionally well. Jan Shadick, Executive Principal of Lambeth Academy, said:
“I am extremely proud of Stella. She speaks with passion, clarity and conviction and sums up what Lambeth Academy is all about.
“Well done Stella and good luck for the national final.”
