Stockport Academy Sixth Formers Achieve Their Best Ever Results

100% pass rate, 44% of entries result in A*-A grades

Students at Stockport Academy’s Sixth Form are celebrating a strong set of A Level results today. 44% of A Level and equivalent entries were graded at A* or A, whilst 78% achieved a C or above. Overall, 100% of entries received pass marks.

Jake Howard was one of many academy BTEC Sport students who gained Triple Distinction. This result has enabled him to secure a place at Manchester Metropolitan University to study sport and exercise science.

Charlotte Wells, who joined the academy for Sixth Form, has achieved two Bs and a C in citizenship, media studies and English language which has secured her a place to study English Language with Media Studies at Bangor University.

The academy’s Year 12 students enjoyed equal success, with nearly 90% of AS entries gaining A*-E grades. Naadira Ahmed studied four subjects at AS Level and gained an A in psychology, a B in sociology and Cs in history and biology. Naadira hopes to study Psychology at university in 2014.

Also in Year 12, Tom Carney gained an A in maths and Bs in further maths and chemistry. Tom is well on the way to achieving his ambition of studying Maths at a Russell Group university.

Jo Harcup, Assistant Principal for Sixth Form, said:

"I am very proud of our students' achievements which are a fitting reward for their hard work over the past two years. With these results behind them, our students now have the opportunity to choose their futures and study at university for the careers they want to enter."

Principal Frank McCarron said:

"I would like to congratulate our students on their success. These results are also testament to our staff who work so hard with our students and encourage them to aspire to make the most of their potential. It is very pleasing for us all to see happy, confident young people celebrating their results knowing they have such bright futures ahead of them. These results demonstrate why we have seen a significant increase in the number of students choosing to continue their education at Stockport Academy’s Sixth Form and we look forward to welcoming our new cohort of Year 12 students this September."
