Swindon Academy Students Celebrate A Level Success

Sixth Form students at Swindon Academy are celebrating today after receiving their exam results.

For A Levels and equivalents, 91% of entries were awarded A* to C grades and the overall pass rate was 100%. In terms of A Levels only, the academy also saw a substantial increase in the number of top grades – 31% of grades were A* or A and 69% were A*-C.

There were also some excellent individual success stories, including:

  • Swopnil Gurung, who achieved A*, A, A in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively. He is going to take a gap year before applying to study Medicine in 2017;
  • Marcos Cerda Pereira, who achieved A, A, B in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A Level and a Distinction Star in his Engineering BTEC. He will be going onto the University of Bristol to study Engineering;
  • Vicky Powell, who is just one of twelve students at the academy to achieve three Distinction Stars in the extended Sports Diploma. She has been accepted into the University of Bath to study Sports Performance.

Ruth Robinson, Principal of Swindon Academy, said:

“I would like to offer congratulations today to all our Sixth Formers receiving their results, which are testament to students’ hard work and perseverance throughout the year. Likewise, these results would not have been possible if not for the example set by our excellent staff team and the support they have continued to provide our students.

“What is particularly pleasing this year is to see the results from our A Level cohort, which have seen a tremendous rise on 2015 and which demonstrate that more of our students are studying and succeeding in rigorous, academic qualifications which will open doors to them in terms of top universities and career paths.”
