Two Secondary Schools and One Primary School Join the Group
We are very pleased to welcome another Yorkshire school to the Group. John Smeaton Academy, previously known as John Smeaton Community College, is located in Leeds and caters for students aged 11-18.
The academy’s Executive Principal Andy Goulty said:
‘It is great to start the new year with an additional focus and drive that stems from joining United Learning and becoming an academy. Everyone at the school is excited and is looking forward to the opportunities that being part of the Group present to us all.’
It is also the first day as an academy for students and staff at Nova Hreod Academy in Swindon.
Julie Tridgell, Principal of Nova Hreod Academy, said:
‘This is an excellent way to begin the new year and we are delighted that we are now able to call ourselves a United Learning academy. We have a very exciting year ahead as a school and to begin with this good news starts us off with a real bounce in our step.’
Finally, we are delighted to welcome Silverdale Primary Academy in Staffordshire. The primary academy, previously known as Silverdale Primary Community School, will work particularly closely with our Corngreaves Academy which has been judged by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ and has National Teaching School status.
Lindi Nejrup, Head Teacher of Silverdale, said:
‘We are very pleased to be beginning 2014 as a part of United Learning. It is always exciting to return to the school after the Christmas holidays but this year there is an added buzz about the school.
‘Over the past year, we have been working very closely with United Learning who have provided invaluable support as we seek to drive up standards across the school. We are looking forward to meeting all the other schools in the Group and working with them.’
Welcoming all three schools into the Group, United Learning Group Chief Executive Jon Coles, said:
‘I am delighted to welcome the schools into the Group. All the schools have a great deal to offer United Learning and we look forward to sharing our expertise and resources with them and also learning from their experiences.
‘We have been working closely with all three schools over the past year and we look forward to building these relationships even further.’
