Walthamstow Academy Students Achieve Highest Ever A Level Results

Sixth Form students at Walthamstow Academy are today celebrating the academy’s highest ever A Level results with the top grades of A*-A rising exponentially from 7% to 35% in a year.

61% of grades were awarded A*-B thus ensuring that students are able to take up offers at their first choice universities.

There were excellent results in a number of individual A Level subjects including:

  • 83% of Economics grades were A*-A;
  • 75% of Further Maths grades were A*-A;
  • 80% of Physics grades were A*-B.

Likewise, in each of the 5 BTEC Diplomas offered at the academy, every single student was awarded an equivalent of A*-A.

Across the results, there were some excellent individual successes.

Danny Baalbaki achieved an A* and two As and becomes the academy’s first student to go the University of Cambridge where he will read Middle Eastern Studies.  Danny said:

”It’s rejuvenating. I feel as if I can finally breathe. I appreciate my peers and teachers who have stood by me and kept me on track whenever I lost sight.”

The Academy’s Head Girl, Molly Cartlidge achieved an A* and two As and will read Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds.  Molly said:

“I can’t believe my seven years here are finished. I am so grateful to the teachers and my peers who helped me and made my time here so enjoyable.”

Curtis Murray received 3 As and is going to the University of Bristol to read Economics and Politics. Curtis said:

“It feels so great finally receiving the grades I needed after seven years. I wouldn’t have been able to cope with the stress and study if it weren’t for my amazing teachers at Walthamstow Academy. To anyone who is nervous about their exams, don’t worry, you’re in safe hands.”

The Academy’s Head Prefect, Ugne Gudelyte, will study Biochemistry at the University of Bristol having achieved two As and a B.  Ugne said:

“I am very happy about my grades and even more so that I got into Bristol. I owe a massive thanks to my teachers and my parents for the phenomenal support and assistance. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be to take five minutes out of your day to relax and just breathe. When it all gets too much, that is what helped me get through. You can do it!”

The Academy's Head Boy, Malachi Amponsah who achieved 3 Bs will read Law at the University of Exeter. Malachi said:

“My advice would be to never take your foot off the pedal because when you open your results you will feel endless pride and joy in knowing you did all that you can.”

Congratulating students, Emma Skae, Principal of the academy said:

“I am so, so proud of all our students today. This is an excellent set of results which is the culmination of two years’ hard work and determination. They have been brilliantly supported and encouraged by staff at the academy and I would like to thank staff for everything they have done to help our students achieve these results.

“Each year our Sixth Form improves and we are increasingly rewarded by seeing our students taking up places at the best universities. This success at A Level inspires our younger students to work harder and aspire to stay on at the academy and go on to university.

“Many of our students celebrating today have been here since Year 7 and we feel proud and emotional to see them leaving here with excellent grades and going on to begin the next stage of their lives as successful, confident, happy young adults.

“They have been a pleasure to teach and are a credit to Walthamstow Academy and everything we set out to achieve.”
