Intro
Thousands of United Learning students, across all sectors and phases, will work on singing, dance and ensemble performance through both curriculum and enrichment. The culmination of the programme will bring together students from across our schools for a massed performance of the opera at the Copperbox Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London. Over 50 United Learning teachers from primary, secondary, state and independent sectors have been participating side by side in one day workshops to help them teach their pupils about Carmen and prepare them for a final performance of the world-famous opera in London’s Olympic Park in June.
The workshops, which were held in Wilberforce Primary in London, Sheffield Springs Academy and Stockport Academy, were led by the Royal Opera House. Using resources from the Royal Opera House’s Create and Sing Carmen programme, the teachers have learned a variety of new methods to help them to deliver operatic training to their students.
“The practitioners were excellent! High energy and high enthusiasm for the whole day. It was brilliant to see United Learning teachers getting stuck in and planning to introduce new techniques into their own practice.” Catherine Barker, Head of Partnerships, United Learning.
