Students and staff at The Totteridge Academy are celebrating following the release of today’s GCSE results, which have seen another sharp increase in performance for the third year running.
76% of students achieved a ‘good pass’ (Grade 4 or higher) in both English and maths, which is significantly above the national average. An impressive 86% of students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in English. Results in maths were particularly strong across the year group, where two out of every five students gained the highest grades of 9-7, equivalent to the old A* or A grade.
There were some particularly impressive individual achievements from students, including:
- Oscar Collins, who achieved seven grade 9s.
- Maddie Griffiths, Head Girl, achieved four grade 9s and three grade 7s.
- Julian Walker, who achieved four grade 9s and two grade 8s.
Chris Fairbairn, Principal of The Totteridge Academy, said:
“These exceptional grades are a reflection of the relentless hard work of the students and staff at The Totteridge Academy and I am incredibly proud of our results today. In 2016, we committed to making The Totteridge Academy the most improved school in London within five years; to have a third successive increase in exam results is testament to the determination of the students and staff in making that happen. It is a privilege to be here celebrating their success with them today.”
The Totteridge Academy has undergone rapid improvement since joining United Learning and the arrival of new head Chris Fairbairn in 2016. In addition to these stellar exam results, the school received a ‘Good’ rating from its Ofsted report in March 2019, where inspectors praised the ‘harmonious and peaceful learning environment’ and recognised both school leadership and student behavior as ‘Outstanding’. This year’s new intake looks set to be its largest ever, as the academy continues to grow in popularity amongst local families.
Maddie Griffiths, who achieved four 9s and three grade 7s, said of her results:
“I am shocked and I am really happy with what I got. It has 100% been worth all the hard work this year. I have had an amazing time at TTA and thank you to all the teachers.”
Her mother added:
“She couldn’t have done any better anywhere else. Everyone has got to send their kids here – it is such a wonderful school. Thank you to all the staff for all of their support throughout.”
Julian Walker, who achieved four grade 9s and two grade 8s, said:
“There are no words to describe this feeling, I can’t believe it. All of us worked our socks off and it has all been worth it. There is nothing that beats this feeling!”
