Joy at Marsden Heights Community College following GCSE success

Students and staff at Marsden Heights Community College are celebrating today following the awarding of GCSE grades.

This year, as with A Levels, GCSEs were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at Marsden Heights Community College sat in-class exams and completed coursework.

This morning was an excellent opportunity to congratulate students for their hard work and perseverance, particularly in the face of disruption caused by the pandemic.

Standout individual successes at the school include:

  • Mubashar Ahmad, who was awarded six Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and one Grade 6;
  • Abeera Abbass, who was awarded five Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and one Grade 6;
  • Alex McMillan, who was awarded four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and a Distinction* in Drama;
  • Wardah Ahmed, who was awarded three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, one Grade 8 and a Distinction* in Graphics;
  • Arij Dar, who was awarded three Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, and two Grade 7s;
  • Malaika Tahir, who was awarded two Grade 9s, three Grade 8s and three Grade 7s;
  • Arun Johnson, who was awarded one Grade 9, three Grade 8s, four Grade 7s and one Distinction* in Graphics.

Many of these students are now set to take their places at local Sixth Forms in September to embark on their A Level studies across a variety of subjects.

Congratulating the students on their qualifications, Alyson Littlewood, Headteacher at Marsden Heights Community College said:

“Congratulations to all our students who have received their GCSE results today. It has been a challenging year and I am very pleased that so many of them are today enjoying the sense of achievement and satisfaction at being awarded these external qualifications. We are a close-knit community at Marsden Heights Community College and it is lovely for us all to see students’ hard work and dedication being rewarded before they set out on the next stage of their education.”
