Paddington Academy Celebrates Best Ever GCSE Results

Academy Achieves 100% A*-C Grades

Students and staff at Paddington Academy are celebrating today after achieving the academy’s best ever GCSE results. 75% of students achieved five or more A* to C grades including English and maths. Overall, 100% of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C up from 98% last year – this is the first time the academy has achieved this impressive result.

In addition to this, 30% of all GCSE grades were A* or A, and 58% were A*-B. 31% of students gained at least five A*-A grades.

As in previous years, the academy has had an extremely strong performance in the core subjects: 89% of students achieved an A*- C in English and 78% in maths. In addition, 26% of maths grades and 30% of English grades were A* or A. In science, 97% of students achieved two GCSEs graded A*- C.

26% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate measure which recognises students who have secured a C grade or better across a core of academic subjects – English, maths, history or geography, the sciences and a language. In 2012, the national average for state-funded schools was 16%.

Excellent individual performance included:

  • Joan Al-Assam who gained ten A* grades in English, maths, biology, chemistry, physics, history, French and geography. This is the highest GCSE score any student at the academy has ever achieved.

  • Ikra Ali who achieved seven A* grades in biology, chemistry, English, English Literature, history, RE and product design and three A grades in physics, maths and French.

  • Flandra Abdullahu who gained five A* grades in biology, chemistry, history, maths and RE and five A grades in physics, French, English, English Literature and economics.

Oli Tomlinson, Principal of Paddington Academy, said:

“We are very pleased with these results and congratulate every student who has achieved the grades they deserve. Students and staff have worked incredibly hard all year and I am delighted that all their hard work has paid off. I am particularly pleased that, for the first time, 100% of students have achieved five or more A* to C grades overall. This is a significant milestone for us to reach and means that every single student has achieved a good set of qualifications that will serve them well as they embark on the next stage of their education.

“Each year our GCSE and A Level results outperform those of the year before. We believe there is no limit to what we can achieve and we will continue to work hard to provide our students with an outstanding and constantly improving education.”
