Accrington Academy students came to the aid of a local food bank, organising a cross-school collection in support of the Hyndburn Helpers.
Students leapt into action after reading about the need for more supplies, following a break-in at St James Church, where more than 1,000 tins of food were stolen.
The Accrington church has been hosting the food bank, run by the Hyndburn Helpers, for the last three and a half years.
On hearing of the group’s plight, the students at Accrington Academy organised collections across all year groups and earlier this week handed over the donations to Lisa Enticott, whose husband Ian is vicar at St James.
Commented Accrington Academy Assistant Principal Lisa Braysford:
“The push to help support St James and the Hyndburn Helpers came about as part of our weekly ‘Big Question’ sessions, where students discuss a range of topics during form time. As well as forming part of the school’s commitment to provide an education with character, it also demonstrates our ongoing support for the local community.”
