United Learning has today announced the appointment of the new Head Teacher for Dunottar School who will succeed Mrs Nikki Matthews in September.
She is Mrs Rowena Cole, currently Deputy Head at United Learning’s Guildford High School.
Mrs Cole graduated from Exeter University with a degree in Biological Sciences before completing a PGCE and starting her teaching career at Howard of Effingham School in Surrey. From here, Rowena moved into the independent sector at City of London Freemen’s School in Ashtead and then took up the post of Head of Biology at Guildford High School in 2004.
Since 2008, Rowena has been Deputy Head at Guildford High School and alongside this has been fully involved in the work of United Learning, working with leaders in other schools to ensure excellent educational provision for all the pupils in the group.
Mrs Cole said:
'I feel incredibly privileged to be taking on the Headship of Dunottar School and joining a community which has shown such resilience and determination over the last few months. I am firmly committed to Dunottar’s ethos and excited about leading the school in its next chapter as a co-educational school as part of United Learning.'
Alongside Mrs Cole, Mr Marc Broughton has been appointed Deputy Head of the school.
Mr Broughton is currently Head of Year at Caterham School, where he has taught since January 2006.
Prior to this, Marc taught at Liverpool College. He is a teacher of English and Sport, with a particular passion for Rugby Union.
Mr Broughton said:
'I am very excited about coming to Dunottar at such an important period in the school's history and I am looking forward to working closely with the whole of the school community.'
Both appointments have been announced alongside the news that the legal transfer of Dunottar into United Learning has now been completed.
Commenting on these announcements, Jon Coles Chief Executive of United Learning said:
'I couldn’t be happier with these appointments. Having worked with Rowena for the past two years, I cannot commend her highly enough. She is just what parents and staff have told me they want in a Head. She is an excellent educational leader, has considerable co-educational experience, has worked successfully in a variety of different contexts and is relishing the opportunity to join Dunottar.
'Rowena and Marc will make a superb leadership team for Dunottar School. They bring passion, energy, excellence, a great commitment to the school’s ethos and a thorough knowledge of co-educational schools. Under their leadership, we will continue to grow and deepen the relationships between Dunottar and our other local schools to the benefit of staff and pupils alike.
'I am very grateful for the support of parents, staff and the Dunottar Foundation in making this period of transition as smooth as it could be. The completion of the legal process means that we have been able to remove any uncertainty for staff and parents before Easter, which was important to us. We remain absolutely delighted to be welcoming the school, its staff and pupils into our Group and are making great steps forward in planning the future of the school.'
