Students on 'cloud 9' at AKS Lytham

Year 11 students at AKS Lytham today are celebrating their GCSE and IGCSE grades.

Headmaster Mike Walton said:

"Today there has been a fantastic atmosphere in the school hall, with so many students achieving beyond their expectations. Despite new specifications and many changes to the exam system, the results are even better than last year in terms of passes and top grades. I’m delighted to see so many students achieving the highest grades and this reflects the excellent teaching and learning that goes on throughout the school year. It has been a real pleasure to work with these students; we are so proud of their achievements, in the classroom and beyond”.

In terms of the top grades, Emily Hayden achieved seven grade 9s, Grace Webster and Catherine Gudgeon got six grade 9s and an A* each. Hasfa Naeem, Ryan Curtis, Danny Shiers, Alexandra Cowburn and Florence Bunday all had a clean sweep of grade 8 and 9s.

On receiving her results Grace, who represents the North of England in hockey, said:

"I am so pleased to get these results, I never expected so many 9s. I have chosen which A levels to study in the Sixth Form – I can’t wait to get started!"

Emily, Grace and Alexandra are amongst a group of seven students who will represent AKS Lytham at the Round Square Global Conference in Ottawa next month.

Another heading for Canada is Sally Stone.  Having recently returned from the AKS Music tour in Italy, she said “I really appreciate all the opportunities I have had to get involved in school activities and trips, all of which have helped to motivate me.  I am really pleased with my results today and am excited to start A levels in the Sixth Form.”

Phill Rudd, Head of Middle School, said:

“I’m delighted that the students’ hard work and dedication has been rewarded with such an impressive set of results. It’s been amazing watching them gain confidence, skills and knowledge through their classes and wider activities and we couldn’t be happier for them. We are equally pleased with those Year 10 students who took their GCSE Maths a year early, where almost all the results were at grade 8 & 9.  It’s a privilege to work in such an ambitious and caring school.”

Head of AKS Lytham Sixth Form, Kevin Maund, said:

“Following on from last week’s outstanding set of A Level results, it’s fantastic to see another group of talented, well-prepared students starting A levels with us in two weeks’ time. With these excellent qualifications under their belts, I know they will eagerly step up to the challenges of A level and the unique opportunities AKS Lytham Sixth Form has to offer. I look forward to welcoming them and the students from other schools that will be joining us on the 4th September for our Induction morning."
