Students’ success in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge

Students in Year 9–11 at Manchester Academy took part in this year’s UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge and achieved great success!

In total, 40 certificates were awarded to Manchester Academy students with 4 Golds, 11 Silvers and 25 Bronzes.

The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11–18 year old students. 40% of pupils are awarded certificates with the top 6% awarded a gold certificate, the next 13% silver, and the next 21% bronze nationally. 40 students at Manchester Academy were in the top 40% of young mathematicians who participated in the challenges. 

There were exceptional performances by Taha (Year 10) and Jaden (Year 9). They shared the top award of ‘Best in School’ certificate and qualified for the European ‘Kangaroo’ Mathematical Challenge. Kieran (Year 11) and Zohaib (Year 10) also achieved gold certificates and just missed out on qualification for the European Challenge by 3 and 2 marks respectively.
