Three ambitious and hard-working Swindon Academy Year 11 students are set to take up places at Marlborough College’s Sixth Form after being awarded full scholarships.
All three students have been part of Swindon Academy’s Grammar Stream which is run in partnership with Marlborough College. The Grammar Stream provides a group of Swindon Academy students, who have been chosen through a competitive assessment process, with the opportunity to participate in a programme of master classes and enrichment activities at Marlborough College.
Over the five year programme, the academy’s Grammar Stream students participate in advanced classes and have the opportunity to study subjects and participate in activities that they might not otherwise be able to do. Students enjoy extended visits to Marlborough College taking part in Latin and classics classes, engaging in enrichment activities, conducting science investigations and undertaking research projects in the College’s fantastic and well-stocked library. The students also have dinner with Marlborough College students in their spectacular dining hall.
To secure the scholarships, all three students underwent a rigorous application process including a day of assessments and interviews at the College. The students will take up their places in September and will be full boarding students giving them an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Marlborough College experience.
Ruth Robinson, Principal of Swindon Academy, said:
“When we launched the Grammar Stream back in 2016, we wanted to offer some of our more able students the opportunity to engage in more challenging courses, to stretch themselves and to benefit from new experiences. As our first cohort of students reach the end of the Grammar Stream, it is fantastic to see how much they have benefited from the programme – not only in the knowledge and qualifications they have gained but also in how they have developed into confident, articulate and inquisitive young adults fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
“I am so pleased that three of our students have secured places at Marlborough College. They are conscientious, hard working and enthusiastic students and I have every confidence they will take full advantage of every opportunity Marlborough has to offer them. I wish them all the very best as they embark on this very exciting chapter in their lives.”
