Pupils from The Victory Primary School are celebrating after two of their football teams were victorious at the Portsmouth Schools 7 Aside Cup Competition. The Under 10s Team won the Landport Cup whilst the Under 11s won the Jeffries Cup. Both competitions were held at Portsmouth Grammar School at the end of September.
On their path to victory, both teams won six matches and beat off strong competition from other Portsmouth primary schools.
Pupil Shavar, who played in both cups, said:
“I felt very happy and honoured to play for the school and winning was amazing.”
Congratulating the pupils, Jim Hartley, Head Teacher at The Victory Primary School, said:
“All the pupils played with a smile on their faces and were a real credit to their families and our school.
“At The Victory Primary School, we firmly believe that achievements like these are just as important as academic success. In winning these competitions the players had to display great team spirit and amazing resilience – qualities we are keen to instil in all our pupils.”
Kath Unitt, the school’s Sports Co-ordinator, said:
“Standing at the side lines, it was such a pleasure to watch our pupils play with such determination and enthusiasm. The pupils had spent many hours training and thoroughly deserved to emerge as the winners.
“As a school committed to giving our pupils an Education with Character, sport plays a really important part in the lives of our children. We constantly seek to provide them with opportunities to learn new skills and compete against their peers from across the county and United Learning.”
