Stockport Academy has been rated a ‘Good School’ with outstanding features following a recent Ofsted inspection.
During the two day visit at the beginning of March, inspectors spoke to students, staff and governors and conducted an online questionnaire to gauge the views of parents. Overall, the inspectors were highly impressed by the academy and reported that ‘teaching, achievement and behaviour have all improved rapidly since the previous inspection‘.
The report follows on from last summer when the academy achieved its best ever GCSE results with 58% of students gaining five or more A*-C grades including English and maths – a rise of 17 percentage points on the previous year’s results.
Key findings identified by the inspectors included:
- “Students are unanimous in the view that they are completely safe in school. They have total confidence that they are well cared for.”
- “Students’ behavior around the academy is impeccable. They treat each other and adults with real respect, and are courteous and helpful at all times. They have a genuine enjoyment of school, and this has resulted in rapidly improved attendance.”
- “Senior leaders and governors have a relentless drive and determination to ensure the best possible education for the students in their care.”
- “Teaching, achievement and behaviour have all improved rapidly since the previous inspection”
Commenting on the Ofsted report, Stockport Academy Principal Frank McCarron said:
“This report rightly acknowledges the hard work of students, staff, parents and governors over the last three years and I would like to thank them for all they have done for Stockport Academy. We are delighted that the inspectors saw strong evidence of how far the academy has come in recent years and we are particularly pleased that they described the behavior of students as impeccable.
"However, we will not become complacent and will continue with our relentless drive to improve and provide the best education for the students in our care. Our aim is to complete the journey to ‘Outstanding’ by the time of the next inspection and we are confident that we will do so.”
