This year, over half of Year 11 pupils (54%) achieved a Grade 5 or above in both English and maths with around a fifth (19%) achieving a Grade 7 or higher in the two subjects.
Overall, with three quarters of the year (76%) securing at least a Grade 4 in English and maths and an average Grade 5 across every qualification awarded, many pupils have secured the qualifications they need to move on successfully to the next stage of their education. This includes a high proportion of Year 11s who are looking forward to starting their A Level studies at The Elms Academy Sixth Form this September.
Among the high number of pupils celebrating their individual performances were:
- Timothy C, who achieved four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and two Grade 7s;
- Elizabeth D, who achieved three Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and five Grade 7s;
- Toby G-R, who achieved five Grade 9s, one Grade 8 and four Grade 7s;
- Adam M, who achieved eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
- Nadiya S, who achieved four Grade 9s, five Grade 8s, a Grade 7 and a Grade 6;
- Salma S, who achieved three Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s and two Grade 6s.
Reflecting on the day, Salma S said:
"I want to thank all my teachers for everything they did for me. They went above and beyond, giving me extra materials to help me revise. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them. I can't wait to study Biology, Maths and Chemistry in Sixth Form."
Cheniah L said of her achievements:
"The teachers at this school are so supportive. Even with all the barriers I faced, they helped me get through my GCSEs and never give up. No matter what happens, you should always keep going because success is at the end of the road."
Kaysan H spoke of the support from staff, adding:
"I'd like to thank my mentor because I wouldn't have got this far without him. I'd also like to thank all my teachers for the effort they put into helping me. At the end of Year 10, I wasn't where I wanted to be, but they helped me get back on track. I'm really looking forward to starting Sixth Form."
Similarly, Deborah O added:
"I wouldn't have been able to do this without my teachers. Thank you for all your support. I'm so happy with my results and really excited to come back here for Sixth Form."
These GCSE achievements round off what has been another successful summer for The Elms Academy, after its Sixth Form saw some fantastic performances at A Level and BTEC last week. This year at The Elms Academy, 70% of all A Level entries were graded at A* to B, and 89% of BTEC qualifications were graded at Distinction* or Distinction. These Year 13s are now preparing to take up some brilliant next steps, including top apprenticeships and vocational pathways in the Royal Air Force and Children's Nursing, alongside spots at prestigious academic institutions like the University of Oxford.
Commenting on the day, Amy Welch, Principal at The Elms Academy, said:
“These achievements reflect what can be achieved through commitment, ambition and a strong work ethic. We ask our students to make the most of each lesson, every day, and we are so pleased that this has resulted in some brilliant individual and standout performances – whether at the highest Grades or through progression from their different starting points.
“GCSE qualifications are, nevertheless, just one part of a student’s education and we are also proud of the character, talents and interests that our Year 11s have nurtured during their time with us. We are excited to see many of them returning for their Sixth Form studies in the coming weeks.
“As we congratulate and celebrate with students today, it is clear that these achievements would not have been possible without the efforts of staff and the support of parents and families. Thank you to our whole school community for their contributions to our students’ successes.”
