Social and environmental responsibility

We have a clear social mission: to improve lives.

As a group of schools, we recognise the responsibilities we have towards our pupils, colleagues and communities, and have made some core commitments to each, which are detailed in our strategy. We want our schools to be places where children, young people and adults can thrive and that have a positive impact on their communities; as a group we are committed to having a positive impact on the national education system and on the wider world, through our leadership and through the decisions we make.

Community development

We are committed to contributing in every local community in which we have a presence, through the service of pupils, through supporting families and through establishing community hubs.

We are working to support our schools to develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with their communities. We encourage our schools to open their facilities to the community and to engage children, young people and local communities in creating positive, sustainable change on a neighbourhood level.

Diversity and inclusion

Our commitment to inclusion and fairness means that everyone is encouraged to aspire, learn, succeed and progress in their academic and professional careers. Our schools are great places to be: we aim to bring out the best in all children and young people, regardless of their starting points or backgrounds, by promoting a welcoming atmosphere and valuing every individual equally.

Sustainable operations

In our role in educating the next generation, we are conscious that those lives will be profoundly shaped by decisions this generation makes affecting our climate and environment. We have made a commitment to substantially reduce United Learning’s annual carbon emissions by 2029-30, ensuring that our operations are sustainable and avoiding negative impact on the environment and climate.

We are taking action in three core areas: energy and estates; our supply chain; and engaging our schools, colleagues and pupils. We are committed to developing our pupils as citizens with an ethical compass, a strong sense of their responsibilities to others and conscious of the impact they can have on their community, society and the planet.
