Leadership and Management Essentials Programme

This short course equips new and aspiring line managers with essential leadership and management skills. Participants will learn the fundamentals of effective team leadership, fostering positive and inclusive environments, and building routines that inspire purposeful leadership.  

You'll also have the opportunity to network and share best practices with colleagues from other schools.

Who's it for

This programme is designed for individuals working in primary or secondary schools who are either aspiring or new line managers, within their first three years of management. It is open to: 

  • Teachers
  • Education Support Staff (i.e. Teaching Assistants, SEND specialists, Inclusion leads)
  • Business Support Staff (i.e. Administrators, Finance Officer, HR Advisor, Caretaker)
  • MAT Central Support Staff (i.e. Assistant Project Lead, Accountant, IT Support) 

Our facilitators will use real-life scenarios and examples from both teaching and business environments to ensure the content is relevant and tailored to the unique dynamics of school operations.

By the end of the programme, learners will be expected to: 

  • Understand the knowledge and skills required for highly effective leadership and management practice. 
  • Build strong professional relationships by creating a supportive and inclusive professional environment for colleagues. 
  • Be able to conduct different types of professional conversations.
  • Know how to set meaningful goals for staff and support staff development.
  • Improve personal effectiveness through self-awareness and professional behaviours. 
How it’s delivered

How it’s delivered

Eight interactive webinars are delivered via Microsoft Teams from November to June (during term time only). Plus, an optional one-day practical workshop (Manchester or London), with a reduced content option available online for those unable to travel.

Each webinar is 1 hour. We run each webinar twice (13:30 and 16:00), allowing participants to choose a time that suits them.

As a minimum, participants must complete all 8 x 1 hour online sessions, plus complete a reflection sheet (approx. 15mins).

This course is funded for United Learning schools and available to schools external to United Learning at a cost.
