GCSEs Day Another Summer Highlight at The John Roan School

As GCSEs are awarded nationally, Year 11s at The John Roan School have been seeing their hard work pay off with an improved year of results across the cohort.

This year, 59% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths while 39% achieved at least a grade 5 in the two subjects. This represented a strong improvement on both measures for the school since 2024 – a trend mirrored in last week’s success for the school’s Sixth Form.

Adding to the overall atmosphere, those celebrating are:
  • Raiya, who achieved ten grade 9s;
  • Ivan, who achieved nine grade 9s and two grade 8s;
  • Isaac, who achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s;
  • Jude, who achieved seven grade 9s and three grade 8s.
These successes follow on from the celebrations last week, when Sixth Form students achieved the best results to date. Half of all A Level entries were awarded A*-B grades, enabling many Year 13 students to secure offers at their universities of choice, including two at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge respectively.

Jennie Sanderson, Principal of The John Roan School, said:

“It has been a pleasure to see students celebrating their results today and taking pride in what their hard work, diligence and ambition has delivered. These students have persevered throughout their time at the school, not just throughout the two years of their GCSE courses, and I know this attitude and approach will serve them well in their next steps.

“We are pleased that many students will be rejoining us at Sixth Form this autumn but, for all of them, we look forward to hearing about their future successes. Likewise, as we celebrate their achievements, I want to pay tribute to our staff for everything they do in their daily roles to nurture, encourage and challenge our students to perform at their best.

“This summer’s achievements will help to fuel us all as a school, as we begin what I hope will be another equally successful academic year ahead.”
