Catgeories : Group news

Pupils are “safe and happy” in school according to report.

Pupils and staff at Dukesgate Academy are celebrating this week after Ofsted confirmed that it continues to be a ‘Good’ school following an inspection in June.
In their report, the Inspector praised the school for the warm and positive learning environment staff have created. They note that pupils feel “safe and happy” in school and that they “value the warm and caring relationships they have with staff and with each other”. Indeed, the school is described as a “calm haven” where children “look forward to their learning each day”.
The Inspector was equally pleased with the academic curriculum. Leaders are said to have designed an “ambitious” curriculum which staff teach with “confidence and expertise”. The Inspector notes that there is a particular focus on teaching reading, meaning that pupils read with “expression and enthusiasm”. As a result, pupils are said to be “well prepared for the next stage of their education”.
Alongside the academic curriculum, the school runs an “effective” programme to support pupils’ wider development. The Inspector praised the school’s work to provide pupils with leadership opportunities which they take on with “diligence and pride”, as well as extracurricular activities which develop pupils’ talents and interests. For example, pupils enjoy taking part in sporting activities and also in Trust-wide events such as creative writing competitions.
Amanda Eldridge, Principal of Dukesgate Academy, said:
“I am very pleased that Ofsted has confirmed that Dukesgate Academy is a ‘Good’ school, reflecting the hard work of our staff and governors in continuing to drive forward improvements. I am particularly proud that the Inspector highlighted the warm and caring culture we have nurtured across the academy which ensures that pupils feel happy in school and enjoy their learning. We look forward to building on the Inspector’s encouraging feedback and taking Dukesgate from strength to strength.”
Darran Ellison-Lee, Director of Primary Education at United Learning, said:
“Throughout their report, the Inspector highlights the academy’s dedication to continuously enhancing the academic and pastoral support provided to pupils, which they acknowledge has resulted in many encouraging improvements in recent years. This positive outcome is a testament to the ongoing efforts made by pupils and staff, as well as everyone across the entire school community.”
