Successful GCSE Day at Heath Lane Academy

Students congratulated for hard work and attitudes as they receive their results.

Students and staff at Heath Lane Academy are celebrating some strong performances after GCSEs were awarded across the country today.

Across this year’s cohort, 56% of students achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and maths, representing a significant increase on outcomes from 2024.

This summer’s results build on feedback from Ofsted this academic year, which pointed to the high expectations held for all students and recent significant improvements the curriculum. This includes an increase in the number of students studying languages to meet the subject requirements of the English Baccalaureate (with entries up 14% this year).

The results saw many students pleased to see the rewards for their hard work over the last two years and reflect positively on their secondary school education. They are now starting to confirm their next steps, with the majority of students excited to be continuing their studies at local Sixth Form Colleges.

Among those celebrating their individual successes are:
  • Connor, who achieved four grade 9s, one grade 8, and one grade 7;
  • Ronny, who achieved one grade 9, two grade 8s and five grade 7s;
  • Aidan, who achieved one graded 8 and six grade 7s;
  • Charlie, who achieved one grade 8 and five grade 7s;
  • Summer, who achieved six grade 7s.
One student who collected his results, Aidan, said:

I'm so proud of myself, and so happy to be celebrating in a school that has been so nurturing, caring and dedicated to giving their students their all."
Another student pleased having received his, Connor, said:

"I'm very happy with my results. I want to thank all of my teachers, especially my Science and Maths teachers. Throughout my time here, they are the ones that have helped me to achieve my grade 9s."
Mark Trimingham, Principal of Heath Lane Academy, said:

"We are extremely proud of our hardworking Year 11s who, with the support of our dedicated staff team and their parents and carers, have achieved Heath Lane Academy's best ever GCSE results. As a cohort they have set a new standard for future year groups to aspire to and have left a legacy of hard work, kindness and respect. I look forward to hearing of their future successes, as they take their next steps with confidence and pride in what they can achieve."
