Exceptional GCSE Results at Newstead Wood School

Catgeories : GCSE results Group news

16% of students achieved all grade 8 and 9s across their GCSE subjects

Students and staff at Newstead Wood School in Orpington are marking another superb set of GCSE results this year.

94% of students were awarded grade 7 or higher in maths and 86% were awarded the same in English. Impressively, over half (52%) of students achieved all grade 7s or higher across their GCSE subjects, whilst 88% of students were awarded eight or more grade 7s or higher.
Securing the very top grades, 16% of students achieved all grade 8 and 9s.

Particularly strong performances came in the sciences and languages. In art, biology, chemistry, Chinese, French and Japanese, over half of students who took each subject were awarded a grade 9.

Today’s success follows on from last week’s A Level results day, where Sixth Formers achieved a raft of top A Level grades and secured places at some of the nation’s most prestigious and competitive universities. A remarkable 12 students from the Year 13 cohort are now set to take their places at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Many of the school’s Year 11 students will be going on to join Newstead Wood’s Sixth Form in September where they will begin their A Level studies.

Alan Blount, Headteacher at Newstead Wood School, said:
We are so pleased and proud of our Year 11 cohort who have achieved some outstanding results today. Each year, we are both impressed and inspired by the hard work and determination our young people put into their GCSE studies and this year has been no different. Our students, with support from our incredible teams of staff, have worked tirelessly to achieve these grades and should be highly commended for their efforts. We look forward to welcoming many of them back into our Sixth Form in September. Well done and congratulations to all who are celebrating today.”
