Joy at Glenmoor and Winton Academies as students celebrate GCSE results

Catgeories : Group news GCSE results

Celebrations are once again underway at Glenmoor and Winton Academies in Bournemouth as students collect their GCSE results.

Both schools achieved some exceptional results, with 82% of students at Glenmoor Academy and 74% at Winton Academy achieving a grade 5 or above in both English and maths. This represents very strong improvements on 2019 measures, the last comparable pre-pandemic figures.

Particularly impressive are the high numbers of students who received the very top grades. At Glenmoor, a third of students (33%) achieved a grade 7 or higher in English and maths, whilst a quarter of students at Winton (25%) achieved the same.

Amongst those achieving some of the top grades are:

  • Josh Nicholson, who achieved six grade 9s and four grade 8s;
  • Luisana Martins Guanche, who achieved five grade 9s and two grade 8s;
  • Alex Van Wyk, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s;
  • Nicholas Simmons, who achieved five grade 9s and four grade 8s;
  • Elvis Komo, who achieved four grade 9s and five grade 8s;
  • Sophia Ghani-Zadeh, who achieved four grade 9s and four grade 8s;
  • Josh Muzura, who achieved three grade 9s and seven grade 8s;
  • Elena Lichonczak, who achieved one grade 9 and eight grade 8s.

Commenting on students’ achievements, Sam Viney, Principal at Glenmoor and Winton Academies, said:

“I am thrilled for our students celebrating today. Across the Year 11 group and at an individual level there have been some excellent results, which reflect the hard work, dedication and resilience of our young people.

“What is particularly gratifying is the proportions of students achieving strong passes in English and maths, reflecting our determination as a school to secure the very best progress for all our students from their respective starting points.

“As our Year 11s prepare to take their next steps, I hope they feel incredibly proud of their achievements. I have every confidence they will approach the next stage of their education with the same enthusiasm and commitment they demonstrated at GCSE.”
