This year across the Sixth Form, over half (54%) of all A Level entries were graded as A* to B, with 80% of entries awarded A* to C. Similar achievements were seen across those taking BTEC qualifications, with a 100% pass rate across all A Level and equivalent awards this year.

With such a strong showing across the cohort, many students have been excitedly confirming their next steps with many taking up their first-choice destinations for the upcoming year.

This included:

• Molly M, who will be taking up a place at Durham University to study Maths, after achieving an A* in Maths, an A in Further Maths and Bs in Physics and History;
• Elysha J – also heading to Durham University but to study Psychology – who achieved As in Biology and Chemistry and a B in Psychology;
• Stefan D, who will be joining Lancaster University to study Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, and Real-world Systems (MARS) after achieving three A*s across Maths, Physics and Further Maths;
• Andrew I, who has secured a place at the University of York to study Chemistry, Biological and Medicinal Chemistry (with a year in industry) after achieving an A* in Maths along with As in Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths;
• Lily A, who achieved Distinction* in BTEC Health and Social, an A* in Graphics and a B in Art and Design and will be first enjoying a Gap year before continuing into work or further studies;
• Erin B, who will be going to Harper and Keele Veterinary School to study Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, after achieving an A* in Maths as well as As in Physics and Chemistry.

Among the students commenting on their results, Molly said she was:

“Pleased, surprised and relieved it is finally over. Looking forward to the future and so grateful for my teachers.”

Andrew added:

“I have had a lovely time throughout. Plenty of challenges but so rewarding at the end to get these results.”

Reflecting on the day, Dan Markham, Principal at Richard Rose Central Academy, said:

“Our Sixth Formers can take pride in the knowledge that they have achieved some fantastic results and challenged themselves to be ambitious at every stage. It is hugely gratifying for staff to see students, many of whom we have known and taught over many years, reach this important milestone and secure destinations that will enable them to move forward confidently into their adult lives.

“We are pleased for all our Year 13s celebrating particular individual successes today but it is also excellent that, as a group, they have brought so much to our school community as young leaders through the example they have set our younger year groups.  

“As we congratulate and wish them all well in their next steps, I want to extend my gratitude to staff for their tireless efforts, encouragement and support that has been so appreciated by our Sixth Formers.”
