Another successful GCSE year for Newstead Wood School

Catgeories : Group news GCSE results

As students around the country receive their GCSE qualifications today, students and staff at Newstead Wood School have been celebrating another successful year of achievements.

This summer, over a third of all GCSEs (37%) at the school were awarded a grade 9 – the highest possible. Two thirds (67%) were awarded either a grade 8 or 9.

In other headlines:

  • 85% of all grades were awarded at grade 7 or higher;
  • 71% of the Year 11s achieved at least a grade 7 across all their subjects;
  • A quarter of the cohort (26%) achieved all grade 8s or 9s.

Today’s achievements follow an excellent set of A Level results and university destinations for the school’s Sixth Form last week. This included eight Sixth Formers who secured places at Oxbridge, among a host of other Russell Group university success stories.

Commenting on students’ achievements, Alan Blount, Head Teacher at Newstead Wood School, said:

“I would like to congratulate all our students on their results today, which yet again will place us at the very top end of schools locally and nationally.

“Over many years, we have established a culture of ambition and excellence at Newstead and our students and staff not only belief in this but in every lesson, every day, are proud to pursue it. These results are testament to all their hard work.

“We now look forward to welcoming the overwhelming majority of the students back to our Sixth Form this September, where they will continue to develop their knowledge, skills and character as successful young people.”
