Avonbourne Girls' Academy Secures Raft of Grade 9s at GCSE

Avonbourne Girls’ Academy in Bournemouth is celebrating today after students secured a strong set of GCSE results, cementing the school’s excellent progress in recent years.

Testament to their hard work and determination, 79% of students at the school achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, with 63% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in the two subjects. Earning the highest results, just under a quarter (23%) of students were awarded a grade 7 or above across the two disciplines.
Among those individual students celebrating standout performances today are:
  • Ruoyi, who achieved seven grade 9s and four grade 8s;
  • Matilda, who achieved five grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s;
  • Anastasia, who achieved four grade 9s, four grade 8s, one grade 7 and one Level 2 Distinction;
  • Nicole F, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s.
Ruoyi said:
“Thank you to all the teachers who have helped me to achieve these grades. I will miss them all and my time at Avonbourne.”

Nicole added:
“I am living proof that you can do anything you put your mind to. I started Avonbourne in Year 8 without even knowing how to speak English and I am leaving with an amazing set of results and a grade 9 in English!”

These results follow last week’s A Level success which saw students at United Sixth Form – at Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies’ – gain places at their universities of choice to study a wide range of competitive courses.

Michelle Dyer, Principal of Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies, said:

“Once again, we are celebrating the extremely positive results achieved by our students at Avonbourne Girls’ Academy. Each year it is a pleasure to see students get this external validation for their years of hard work and effort. I am so pleased for them and their families as they celebrate their success.

“We look forward to many of them joining our United Sixth Form in September and continuing their studying in an environment that they know well and where they feel at home and encouraged.”
