GCSE Excellence at Avonbourne Boys' Academy

Avonbourne Boys’ Academy in Bournemouth is celebrating today after Year 11 students were awarded their GCSE qualifications, cementing another superb year of results for the school.

Reflecting the commitment the students have shown to their studies across the cohort, three quarters (75%) of students achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, with 58% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in the two subjects.
Some of the school’s top performers celebrating their successes today include:
  • Namo, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s, two grade 7s, one grade 6 and one Level 2 Distinction*;
  • Zain, who achieved three grade 9s, three grade 8s, three grade 7s and one Level 2 Distinction.
Namo said:
“I joined the school in Year 7 and the teachers at Avonbourne have been amazing. I've loved my journey here and look forward to celebrating these results.”
Zain added:
“I joined Avonbourne in Year 7 from Romania with an ‘ok’ level of English and I am now leaving with a grade 9. I'd like to thank Miss Ibbotson, Miss Fairbank, Miss Pittwood and Mrs Baldwin who have helped me achieve this and I am so grateful for what the whole school has done for me.'

These results follow last week’s A Level success which saw students at United Sixth Form – at Avonbourne Boys’ and Girls’ Academies – gain places at their universities of choice to study a wide range of competitive courses.

Michelle Dyer, Principal of the Boys’ and Girls’ Academies, said:

“Our Year 11 boys have had a great year and their hard work is paying dividends today in this very good set of results. We have believed in this group since Year 7 and we have worked hard to support them. I would like to thank all my colleagues for the encouragement they have given them in addition to the excellent teaching and pastoral care they give each student at Avonbourne Boys’.

“We look forward to welcoming many of our departing Year 11s back to our United Sixth Form in September where they will no doubt continue to blaze a trail for what our students can achieve.”
