Events included shot put, discus, sprints, relay and endurance running as well as netball and rounders. To ensure every student could compete, there was a seated target throw event for students with physical disabilities.
With construction of Chilmington Green School’s new school building underway, the Sports Day was held at Ashford Oaks Primary School. Once construction is complete, the school will benefit from a fantastic range of sports facilities.
The students competed in their Houses with the Blue House emerging as victors and winning the Sports Day trophy.
Max Kemp, a Year 7 student, said:
“I really enjoyed our first sports day, especially the long-distance running event which I won. It was challenging and difficult but I’ve been training during athletics club. The Inter-House tournaments were fun, I did netball and our House won the entire sports event and we worked well together.”
Another student, Regan Croucher, added:
“I enjoyed the sports tournaments as they were fun and we got to work with our house mates. The best part was winning the whole tournament.”
Rebecca Wood, Assistant Principal at Chilmington Green School, said:
“As a new school, we were thrilled to host our first ever Sports Day and it was fantastic to see students participating so enthusiastically. I was impressed by students’ motivation, energy and camaraderie as well as by the level of skill they demonstrated in each of the events. Well done to all involved, and congratulations to our Blue House who were our overall winners in the Inter-House competition.”
