Impressive GCSE performances for Paddington Academy students

Catgeories : Group news GCSE results

As GCSE results are received across the country today, students at Paddington Academy are celebrating some stand-out performances.

More than two thirds of students this year (68%) achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and maths, whilst a quarter of the cohort (26%) were awarded a grade 7 or higher in the two subjects. This represents strong improvements on both measures against the last comparable pre-pandemic results in 2019.

Students were also congratulated by the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Gillian Keegan MP, during a visit to the academy this morning. She said:

“You can feel the excitement in the hall today, both the parents and staff, but most of all the students who are very excited. They have done brilliantly and resilience is something that has shone through this year group and they have got fantastic results.”

Among the top performers celebrating today were:

Sarah Mejri who gained eight grade 9s in English Literature, Maths, French, Combined Science, Religious Studies, Business and Arabic, and one grade 8 in English Language.

Assma Khallouf who gained five grade 9s in English Language, Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and four grade 8s in English Literature, French, Geography and Religious Studies.

Lydia Lagha who gained five grade 9s, one grade 8, and three grade 7s in English Language, English Literature, Maths, French, Combined Science, Geography, Religious Studies and Business Studies

Amauri Fenton-Hines who gained nine grade 7-9s with grade 9s in English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

These results follow a fantastic day of celebrations last week, as the academy’s Sixth Form marked its own successes. 40% of all A Level grades awarded this year were A*-A, enabling Sixth Formers to secure a range of excellent university places, including at University College London and King’s College London.

Congratulating students, Peter Jones, Principal at Paddington Academy, said:

“Once again, we are extremely pleased with these GCSE results and the performance of our wonderful Year 11 students. There have been some exceptional individual achievements as well as a fantastic set of outcomes across the year group, which set up our students perfectly for joining our outstanding Sixth Form.

“It is particularly pleasing that this cohort have done so well given that their education too was disrupted by Covid, but they have proven their ability in full exams judged at pre-pandemic levels and our high achievement has been maintained.  We congratulate them all and look forward to welcoming the vast majority back in the new term to continue their studies at A Level.”
