Top grades abound, helping students to secure first-choice places at Russell Group universities and other competitive study programmes
The Elms Academy’s Sixth Form has seen another year of impressive achievements as A Level results are released today – unlocking top Oxbridge and Russell Group university offers for students.
Three Sixth Formers secured places at either Oxford or Cambridge this summer, marking a record for the school and adding to continued Russell Group success.
Nearly a third of all A Level entries (31%) this year were awarded the highest grades of A* or A, helping to set them up for success in their next stages. 60% of the A Level entries were higher-level passes of A* to B.
Among the students enjoying particular success were Adzor Atkins and Lloyd Williams, who both achieved straight A*s in their A Levels and will now be heading to the University of Oxford; Adzor to Oriel College to read Chemistry and Lloyd to Exeter College to read Mathematics.
Meanwhile, Halima Mahad Ali has gained a place at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge for the university’s new Foundation Year course in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, after achieving an A* and two Bs at A Level.
Other students celebrating impressive Russell Group university offers include:
- Samiya Hussein, who achieved two A*s and an A and has secured a place at University College London to study Arts and Sciences (with Study Abroad);
- Adrian Hurtado Fuel, who achieved two A*s and a B, and has gained a place at Durham University to study Engineering (Aeronautical);

- Fabrizio Fasanelli and Ara Panah, who are both taking up places to study Aerospace Engineering at the University of Sheffield and the University of Manchester respectively.
Across the graduating Year 13 group this year, there is a rich variety in the courses and interests students will now be pursuing. In addition to medicine, maths and engineering as above, other Sixth Formers have secured university offers to study everything from finance and English literature to the arts. For example, Melanie Jurado Hernandez will be going on to study Popular Music Performance at BIMM University after achieving strong grades at A Level and BTEC.
At BTEC, a huge 86% of grades achieved at The Elms Academy’s Sixth Form were at Distinction level. Among the excellent individual performances were:
- Aniqah Ali, who achieved triple Distinction*, and is now heading to King’s College London to study Nursing;
- Faisal Ali, who achieved two Distinction* and a Distinction, and has secured an offer at London South Bank University to study Sports Rehabilitation;

Amy Welch, Principal at The Elms Academy, said of students’ achievements:
“It has been fantastic to see once again our Sixth Formers thriving and securing such an impressive set of A Level and equivalent grades, knowing how hard they have worked throughout their studies. But more importantly, I am so pleased to see that these are unlocking doors to some of the country’s most prestigious and competitive courses, including at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and other Russell Group institutions.
“We emphasise to students from Year 7 all the way up to Sixth Form that our goal is for students to have as many opportunities available to them for the future. Achieving excellent outcomes is part of this but also the skills and attributes they have developed as young people: resilience, courage and character. We are all so proud of what this year’s Year 13s have achieved and look forward to following their lives and careers over the coming years.
“As always, I would like to thank our wonderful team of staff too. Their commitment to students is unwavering and I know they all share my pride today as we say congratulations and goodbye to these Year 13s.”
