Surbiton High School A Level results day 2023

Surbiton High School’s A Level 2023 class are celebrating excellent results this year with over 25% of grades at A*, 64% of all grades A* to A and over 90% of grades A* to B.

As a School that prides itself on being able help students to find their niche through both their academic and co-curricular activities, it is a pleasure to see the array of courses our students will be going on to study. Biomedical scientists and neuroscientists, potential lawyers, mechanical engineers, medics, artists, musicians, linguists and vets are amongst the 88% of our students going on to study at Russell Group and Times Top Ten Universities, with the remaining students heading off to prestigious music and art institutions or to take up apprenticeships. Over 86% have achieved their first choice at university.

Mrs Glover, Principal, commented: “I am so delighted for this cohort who have sat public exams for the first time in their lives and have been so dedicated to their studies. It is heartwarming to see their hard work rewarded through these results. My thanks go to our committed staff body whose unwavering support of our students has enabled these outcomes.

These students leave Surbiton High School with the skills and qualifications they need to shape their futures and to make an impact on the world around them, and these results underline the holistic education they have received.”

A lot has been spoken about in the press recently about results returning to 2019 levels and it is wonderful to see over 15 of our subjects have achieved comparable or higher grades than in 2019.

This year, 13 subjects have achieved over 70% of all grades A*to A, including Chemistry, Dance, Economics, Fine Art, French, German, Latin, Mathematics, Philosophy, Photography, Religious Studies, Sociology and Spanish.

Our heartfelt congratulations go to our ten students who have achieved three or more straight A* grades at A-level – well done to Anna-Maria A, Alice B, Livia B, Lizzie E, Ciara F, Charlotte H, Lily K, Olivia O, Bella P and Lauren V. Further congratulations must also go to the 64 students who have been rewarded with three or more A* to A grades at A-level.

There are exceptional individual achievements further to the successes of the whole cohort. At least seven students are bound for Oxbridge this year: Lorna B (Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic) to Cambridge, and Juliet H (English and French), Annabelle T-W (Chemistry) and Lauren V (Chemistry) to Oxford, with Isobel J (Cambridge), Ava L (Oxford) and Ella P (Cambridge) who received their results last year. We also have hockey players on the Great Britain Elite Development Programme, Elani S and Freya R, going on to study English and Veterinary Medicine; GB rowers, Charlotte H, who has achieved straight A*s; and Issy K, who achieved straight A grades alongside becoming a world champion rower. Two sports students are off to America, Hettie W to Yale, where she will be joining their elite hockey programme and Maddie G to Stanford on a Rowing Scholarship.

As our students embark on the next chapter of their academic journey, we look forward to watching their future unfold and supporting them through the Green and Silver Club.
