The Royal School celebrates achievements of pupils who leave feeling ‘Future Ready’

The Royal School is delighted to celebrate with this year’s A level pupils, who have secured places at a range of impressive destinations.

Four in five Royal students got into their university of choice with the majority going to one of the prestigious Russell Group universities.

High performing student Caitlin M achieved A*, A, A and has secured a place at University of Southampton, a Russell Group university, to study modern languages. Caitlin commented, “My teachers have been so supportive and given me the tools to work independently. Studying modern languages, the small classes gave me the confidence to speak freely, to practise and make mistakes, which is so important. I feel that the Future Ready Programme and ethos has prepared me well for university and being able to live independently. The car maintenance course was very useful along with the financial module which will help me to budget better at university. As I have been flexi-boarding I have had the chance to adapt to living independently but in a supportive environment. I feel I am definitely ready for university life.”

Helen H, an international pupil from China who joined The Royal as a boarder in Y10, achieved A, A, B, B. Helen has grown in confidence during this time and her results are particularly impressive given she is writing in her second language.

Flora B has opted for a vocational pathway and received an unconditional offer at the prestigious Leading Edge flying school to become a commercial airline pilot. Places on the fast-track LEAP (Leading Edge Airline Preparation) course are highly sought after and Flora’s offer was particularly notable as she competed with post-graduate students for a place in a very demanding application process.

Cameron I joined The Royal School in Y6. During his years at the school he says he transformed from a shy person to a confident young man who was delighted to be elected head boy. Cameron achieved a grade A in his EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) in which he evaluated how Putin has affected Russian international relations. Cameron obtained a place at his first choice of university and will be studying marketing.

Mrs Pippa Smithson, outgoing head of The Royal School, said, “I am delighted with these results. This particular group of students faced disruption to their learning during the Covid years and did not have the opportunity of a dry run at GCSE. They have emerged from school triumphant in securing impressive next steps. Their success goes beyond their academic merits and having seen their enthusiasm for our bespoke future ready programme, I know they will go on to make a positive difference in our world."

Following the Independent Schools Inspectorate’s (ISI) Focused Compliance and Educational Quality Inspection, carried out in April 2023, The Royal School achieved the highest possible rating of ‘excellent’ in all areas. It has also been shortlisted in the International Student Experience category of the Independent School of the Year 2023 Awards with results announced in September 2023.

The Royal School is a leading independent day and boarding school for children aged 9 to 18 located at Farnham Lane, Haslemere, Surrey. It is a member of United Learning.
