United Learning have decided to open up their ‘tried and tested’ curriculum to other schools across the country. The United Curriculum has been developed over several years by subject experts and curriculum leaders across the country and then refined through the feedback of hundreds of teachers across the Group’s schools. It is being used by 7 out of the top 50 schools in the country for Progress 8.
The resources being shared include:
- Primary: EYFS-KS2 in EYFS, science, history, geography, religion and world views and art & design;
- Secondary: KS3 curriculum in English, maths, science, history, geography and religious studies.
The Primary materials are available immediately with some secondary being launched later this month. In due course, further secondary curriculum resources will be added to the offer.
The Group are also making their secondary end-of-year assessments available to schools which will allow others across the country to benchmark their students’ scores against United Learning scores.
Schools will be charged for access to the curriculum and assessments but fees will be kept to the minimum in order to cover the cost of maintenance and implementation support. Schools can choose to buy individual subjects on a per pupil basis to maximise the freedom for schools in what they need. Further details can be found at

United Learning’s commitment to its Continuity Oak resources, which any in the school in the country can access for free, remains.
Launching the United Curriculum, Sir Jon Coles, CEO of United Learning said:
“It is part of our role and our moral purpose to contribute towards the improvement of education generally across the country so it feels fundamentally right to share what we have developed within our Group where it can assist others. We think our curriculum is excellent. It has been developed and tested in our schools across the country. We know it can have a genuine impact in improving outcomes for learners and so have decided to make it available for others to use.
“As importantly, is access to our benchmarking analysis for end-of-year assessments based on this curriculum. This will give standalone schools and smaller academy trusts the ability to compare their learners’ progress with our students nationwide.
“By opening up our curriculum to other schools, we can invest more in the whole curriculum package to benefit every school using it. We have kept fees to a minimum and are providing a variety of options that will suit any school regardless of its size and circumstances.
“We hope that what we are offering will assist teachers across the country and schools that are looking for nationally-tested, expert-led resources that they are unable to develop themselves. We know that these resources work well from our internal feedback and testing. We now believe we should widen their availability so that others can benefit as our schools already do”.
