Walthamstow Academy Marks Stellar Year of A Level Success

Students and staff at Walthamstow Academy are celebrating today after A Level results were published, with two students at the school set to take up their places at the University of Oxford.

One of these students is Syrine Ghiat, who achieved an A* in Government & Politics, and two As in History and English Literature, and has secured her place at the University of Oxford to read Law.

Speaking of her success, Syrine, said:

“Thank you to every teacher, and every member of staff for making these two years memorable and for allowing me to reach my full potential. I would not have achieved any of it without the school and my Head of Sixth Form.”

Across the Year 13 cohort, over a quarter (28%) of A Level entries were awarded A*-A grades and an impressive 58% were awarded A*-B grades. Buoyed by these qualifications, the school’s Sixth Formers have been able to successfully secure their chosen next steps, whether it be pursuing a degree apprenticeship or taking up places at some of the country’s most prestigious universities, with half of those students who want to attend university earning places at Russell Group institutions.

Among those high-performing students seeing their hard work rewarded today are:

· Muhammd Awais Saqib, who achieved two A*s in Chemistry and Maths, and a B in Biology, and is off to University College London to study Neuroscience;

· Mohammad Dawood, who achieved two A*s in Economics and Maths, and an A in Chemistry, and is off to Queen Mary University of London to read Economics;

· Ibrahim Ahmed, who achieved an A* in Biology, and two As in Chemistry and Maths, and is going to University College London to study Medicine;

· Erin Young, who achieved an A* in English, and two As in Government & Politics and History, and is off to the University of Leeds to study English;

· Ferdaws Sangar, who achieved two As in Biology and Maths, and a B in Chemistry, and is off to Hull York Medical School to study Medicine.

Speaking of his results, Muhammd said:

“I don’t know where I would be without the help of the amazing teachers at Walthamstow Academy and phenomenal support I got from them. I am so happy with my results.”

Ibrahim said:

“I just want to thank all my teachers that have supported me along the way. It has been a long and rewarding journey, filled with great memories. I will always be grateful for everything this school has done for me.”

Emma Skae, Principal at Walthamstow Academy, said:

“Today’s fantastic results are a testament to the hard work, determination and grit our Sixth Formers have shown to their A Level courses. I have been so impressed by the way they have tackled their studies over the past two years, continuously setting high goals and aspirations for themselves which they have reached, if not exceeded.

“A huge thank you to our exceptional Sixth Form team for their tireless support and guidance which has played such an important role in enabling our students to achieve the success they have today.

“These qualifications have opened so many doors for our students who are now able to leave our academy and take up a diverse array of opportunities depending on their chosen career path. I know we all wish our departing Year 13s the best of luck as they take their next steps and undoubtedly embark on very bright futures.”
