Accrington Academy sixth formers mark A Level success

High-achiever Daisy Moreton set to study Medicine at the University of St Andrews.

Students and staff at Accrington Academy are celebrating as Sixth Formers confirm their places at top universities, after receiving their A Level results earlier today.

One of the academy’s top performers was Daisy Moreton, who achieved an A* in Mathematics and two As in Biology and Chemistry. Daisy will be attending the University of St Andrews to study Medicine. In a sign of her exceptional commitment to the subject, and alongside her wider academic studies, Daisy took up a part-time job at a local care home and also volunteered at a COVID-19 vaccination centre.

Speaking of her achievement, Daisy said:

“I’m absolutely delighted with my results and couldn’t have done it without the support of my teachers. I can’t wait to study Medicine at St Andrews”.

Further standout successes at the academy include:

  • Henry Gorrill, who achieved three As in History, Business Studies and Psychology, and will be attending the University of York to study History.
  • Wayde Robinson, who achieved three As in Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry.
  • Ellison Curtis, who achieved two As in Law and Art and a B in English, and will be attending The University of Manchester to study Law.
  • Malaika Naz, who achieved Distinction* and two Distinctions in BTEC Health And Social Care, and will be attending Manchester Metropolitan University to study Primary Education with QTS.

Henry said:

“I’m extremely pleased with my results and looking forward to studying History at York after a years’ break.”

Malaika added:

“Once I opened my results, I was thrilled because it meant that I could continue my journey in education at Manchester Met and fulfil my dream of becoming a primary school teacher. I have really enjoyed studying at Accrington Academy. I have been supported throughout the years, especially by Miss Mears.”

Commenting on the students’ achievements, Jamie Peel, Principal at Accrington Academy, said:

“It has been excellent to celebrate our students’ A Level success today and see so many of them reach their academic goals. It is particularly pleasing to see our students going on to study such a wide range of high-quality courses at university, from Medicine to Law. Our Year 13s, as well as our staff, have shown a great deal of resilience over the past few years and should be delighted with the outcomes that have been achieved today.”
