Another standout year at Newstead Wood School Sixth Form

Successes this year include eight students securing places at Oxbridge and a host of other Russell Group universities.

30% of students achieved A* and A grades

Students and staff at Newstead Wood School are celebrating another year of stand-out A Level performances today, as Sixth Formers receive their results and university places.

The Orpington school’s graduating cohort have continued to secure high proportions of the top grades, with around half (47%) of all A Level entries awarded A* or A. This has once again seen students secure places at the UK’s most competitive and prestigious universities – including eight who secured places at Oxbridge.

With 30% of students achieving all A*s and A grades, there were plenty of impressive individual performances across the school. Very high numbers of Sixth Formers will be going onto Russell Group institutions – with 13 heading to the University of Warwick, 12 to King’s College London, eight to Durham University and six to the University of Bristol, among others.

In particular, Newstead Wood Sixth Formers were particularly successful in gaining university places on medical courses; an impressive 19 students will be taking up university places to study Medicine, two in Dentistry and one in Veterinary Science.

Alan Blount, Head Teacher at Newstead Wood School, said of the students’ achievements:

“We are very pleased for all our students celebrating their successes today. This year’s cohort, more than most others, has demonstrated particular resilience and strength of character in coping with the challenges of the pandemic.

“Throughout their time at Newstead Wood, these Year 13s have shown real maturity and confidence in how they have approached their studies and it is particularly pleasing that they have had the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities in these external examinations.

“These qualifications will set them up for brilliant futures as they take up places at many of the country’s top universities. They leave our school with our congratulations, thanks and very best wishes."
