Students said to “thrive” at the academy in latest Ofsted inspection report.

Students and staff at Avonbourne Girls’ Academy are celebrating this week after the school was rated ‘Outstanding’ in all categories by Ofsted following a recent inspection.
The inspectors’ report was full of praise for the school, describing it as a place where students “thrive”. According to the report, students “relish meeting the high expectations the school has of how they behave and what they can achieve”, enabling them to get the most out of their education. The inspectors found that all students, including those with SEND, “achieve very well” and have “impressive knowledge” of the subjects they are studying.

Staff are also said to have created a “purposeful and friendly” atmosphere which is underpinned by “warm, supportive relationships”. The inspectors were clearly impressed by the level of care shown by staff, noting that the support they provide to students who may be experiencing difficulties is “exceptional”.

Alongside the academic curriculum, which is described as “broad and highly ambitious”, the report highlights the strength of the school’s extracurricular offering. As the inspectors note, “a multitude of cultural, artistic, academic or sporting clubs enable pupils to develop their passions and interests” as well as to gain “a rich set of experiences” to support their learning. This includes through activities such as work experience and meeting with employers, ensuring that students are well prepared for life beyond school.
Michelle Dyer, Principal at Avonbourne Girls’ Academy, said:
“We are all thrilled that Ofsted has rated Avonbourne Girls’ Academy ‘Outstanding’ in all categories. The inspectors’ comments reflect the phenomenal efforts of our students and staff who make our school such a special and inspiring community. I would like to thank them for their hard work over a number of years towards securing this outcome and I look forward to the school continuing to go from strength to strength.”

Benjamin Antell, Director of Secondary Academies at United Learning, added:
“This is an excellent outcome which reflects the hard work of everyone across the school community.”
