Across the cohort, Year 11s were excellent ambassadors for the school’s STAR values: Self-Discipline, Tenacity, Ambition and Responsibility. Pupils showed exceptional commitment, attending a record number of revision sessions and clocking up record levels of independent study and preparation as a year group. 

As a result, this year, over half of pupils (53%) achieved a Grade 5 or higher in both English and maths, with nearly three quarters of them (73%) achieving a Grade 4 or above in the two subjects. This was a significant improvement on last year’s figures and a credit to pupils and staff alike. 

Among the many fantastic examples of individual achievement and STAR values were:

• Self-discipline: Hallie Bachieved four Grade 9s and three Grade 8s and has been an outstanding all-rounder throughout her time at the school. Her academic achievements reflect her commitment to excellence, laser-focus on her learning and dedication. Hallie has embraced every opportunity available to her and, just as importantly, has consistently been a champion of others. 
• Tenacity: Ruby H achieved one Grade 8, two Grade 7s, four Grade 6s and a Grade 5 in Art, providing a strong foundation for her next steps. She has overcome significant challenges to achieve results she can be proud of by firmly believing in herself and striving hard in her learning. 
• Ambition: Caitlin G achieved six Grade 9s and one Grade 8, reflecting both her talent and commendable work ethic. Alongside her main programme of study, she chose to complete a GCSE in Art and an Extended Mathematics qualification entirely in her own time after school. Her commitment and perseverance were rewarded with an impressive Grade 7 in GCSE Art and a Distinction in Extended Mathematics. 
• Responsibility: Oli W achieved four Grade 9s, one Grade 8, a Distinction in Further Maths and a Distinction* in IT. Throughout his two-year GCSE programme, Oli has worked consistently hard and approached his studies with maturity, commitment and determination. His GCSE achievements reflect his sustained effort and positive attitude and, importantly, are a fitting reward for him. 

In addition, a pupil who has embodied all of the STAR values is Theo, who achieved three Grade 8s and four Grade 7s. Despite joining the school partway through the year, he quickly became an important member of the cohort. As Junior Head of School, Theo demonstrated outstanding leadership and responsibility, helping to inspire and lead the year group towards excellence. 

Ruby H and Oli W said of their achievements: 

“The revision sessions really helped me stay on track. Teachers always made time for us, even before school or after lessons, and it made a huge difference knowing they genuinely wanted us to do well.”

Commenting on the morning’s celebrations, Homeira Zakary, Principal at George Eliot Academy, said: 

“We are incredibly proud of every member of Year 11. With so many individual successes and personal achievements, all pupils will be celebrated for their contributions, progress and journey as part of our school community. 

“Despite some of the challenges faced this year, we have seen pupils’ hard work and commitment shine through – as evidenced by some fantastic outcomes across the year group as a whole. As these young people look forward to taking their next steps, we know their achievements and efforts will cascade down through our school as inspiration for our younger year groups.”
