On 24th May, a team of staff from Nuneaton Academy successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge – an endurance event which challenges participants to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours – to raise funds for Mary Ann Evans Hospice in Nuneaton.

The team of staff showcased their resilience and determination by successfully climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, followed by Scafell Pike in England and finally Snowdon in Wales. Overall, they covered an impressive 23 miles with an ascent of 3,064 metres in under 24-hours.

Thanks to the fantastic generosity of friends, family and members of the school community, the staff team managed to raise well over £2,500 for Mary Ann Evans Hospice, which they presented to representatives from the charity during a special presentation held in school this week.

In the lead up to the challenge, the staff team’s endeavour was discussed in multiple assemblies, including those focused on Resilience and the academy’s Charity Weeks, enabling pupils to feel part of the upcoming event and to take inspiration from their teachers.

Jon Parker, one of the members of staff who took part in the challenge, said:

“What an honour, privilege and inspiration this event was. We all really pushed ourselves and supported one another throughout the tough moments and, in the process, managed to raise thousands of pounds for a very worthwhile cause. I loved every minute!”

Another participating member of staff, Chris Jupe, added:

“A huge well done to all my colleagues who completed this challenge. They were amazing and I count myself lucky to have been a part of the experience.”

Sally from Mary Ann Evans Hospice, said:

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Nuneaton Academy who took on the 3 Peaks Challenge, raising vital funds for Mary Ann Evans Hospice. As we celebrate our 35th year, we have been asking our community to stand with us to help secure the future of local hospice care. From all at Mary Ann, we are incredibly grateful for your support and dedication and would like to offer our congratulations for raising £2,740.”

Mark Dalton, Principal at Nuneaton Academy, said:

“Very many congratulations to our team of staff who successfully completed this highly impressive challenge. We are all so proud of what they were able to achieve and I know that their strength and determination has served as fantastic inspiration to our young people.

“Thank you also to all those across our school and local communities who donated to this cause. Mary Ann Evans Hospice holds particular significance for us at Nuneaton Academy, with several of our staff members connected to the charity’s work and volunteering efforts so we are incredibly pleased and proud to be able to lend our support to them.”
