Pupils Efforts Rewarded with GCSEs

Pupils at George Eliot Academy thrilled as they received their GCSE grades, with a number achieving top grades.

George Eliot Academy in Nuneaton has been home to celebrations this morning, as GCSEs were awarded across the country.

Year 11 pupils at the school today were joined by staff and, in some cases, their family members, as they celebrated the outcomes they had achieved. The moment was one of excitement and pride for many as they reflected on their hard work over the past five years.

Across this year’s cohort, 59% of pupils achieved a grade 4 or higher in both English and maths while there were very strong performances on a number of other individual subjects including the sciences, History, Art, Photography and Physical Education. Many of them are now confirming their next steps, including at local Sixth Form Colleges and apprenticeship schemes as they look to continue their studies.

One pupil, Grace K, achieved particularly exceptional grades, with an impressive nine grade 9s – the highest possible award across all of her GCSE subjects.

Alongside her, other pupils celebrating their individual successes include:
  • Isobel H., who achieved eight grade 9s and two grade 7s;
  • Angel F., who achieved six grade 9s and one grade 8;
  • Cerys A., who achieved two grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s;
  • Jonah B., who achieved two grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s;
  • Kelsi B., who achieved five grade 9s and three grade 7s;
  • Marci E., who achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s and four grade 7s;
  • Adrian K., who achieved one grade 9, one grade 8 and four grade 7s;
  • Jack K., who achieved two grade 9s and seven grade 8s;
  • Isaac L., who achieved one grade 9, two grade 8s and two grade 7s.
 Pupils at the school have said:

“My results are good, I am thankful for all the teachers’ support.”

“I am happy with my results, school does so much to help pupils with different interventions.”

“The teachers are awesome, especially science. They gave us so much support to be able to get these grades!”

Homeira Zakary, Principal of George Eliot Academy, said:

“I am extremely proud of all our Year 11 pupils collecting their results today. Not only did they show perseverance and resilience whilst sitting their exams, they have also displayed these attributes consistently over their time at the school. Seeing them grow and progress has been incredibly rewarding, and I would like to wish them the very best as they move on to the next stage of their education.

“I would like to thank our amazing team at George Eliot Academy, as well as our supportive group of parents and carers, whose encouragement of pupils has helped them thrive in their education. Our pupils’ achievements are a credit to the work of every member of the school community in helping them to achieve their best.”
