According to the inspectors, who visited the school last month, pupils “now achieve, belong and thrive” at the school, following “rapid and sustained improvements” since the school joined United Learning in 2023.
Pupils’ behaviour and positive attitudes shine through Ofsted’s feedback, with inspectors praising how “enthusiastic” they are about their education and their pride in attending Huish Episcopi Academy. Pupils are said to “feel part of a valued community”.
Older pupils in particular, including those in the Sixth Form, told inspectors “the culture of the school has been transformed in recent years” and is now a “happy, positive and safe environment where pupils thrive”. Likewise, staff members are said to “treasure” working in the school, because they feel “valued” and well supported.
Under the Ofsted framework introduced in November 2025, the school was judged to meet the ‘Expected Standard’ across five key criteria and was judged to display a ‘Strong Standard’ in a further two. Ofsted is clear that pupils now benefit from “high-quality teaching which allows them to make good progress from their starting points”, with leaders praised for being “relentless in their approach to maintaining standards and continuing to drive further improvements”.
Sitting alongside pupils’ academic learning, the report also highlights the emphasis placed on offering an Education with Character through the school’s Pupil Charter. This means many pupils participate in extra-curricular clubs such as chess, choir and music ensemble, alongside opportunities to develop leadership responsibilities – from being on the school council to becoming a sports leader.
Katie Boyes, Principal at Huish Episcopi Academy, said of the outcome:
“It is fantastic to receive this recognition and endorsement from Ofsted of all that has been put in place in recent years to create a thriving, happy environment for our students. The whole school community – our wonderful students and staff, as well as families and governors – has got behind our ambitious vision for the future of the school and this outcome demonstrates the transformation underway. We are grateful for everyone’s continuing support and engagement as we build further on this report.”
Benjamin Antell, Director of Secondary Academies at United Learning – the national group of schools Huish Episcopi Academy joined in 2023, added:
“We are all ambitious for the school’s future and this outcome reflects the changes that have been put in place since the school joined United Learning. This is a strong report which accurately reflects the school’s performance, strengths and its trajectory. Where there are areas for further improvement, we know that the school, its leadership team and staff are fully committed to continue delivering these at pace.”
